7th of June, discover the great potential of ocean energy [fr]
For the first time, the United Nations hold an international conference on ocean. Representatives from Member States and maritime sectors from all over the world will gather in New York with one objective: saving our ocean.
The Ocean Conference will be divided between official ministerial meetings and more than 150 side events (programme of the conference: https://oceanconference.un.org/).
The Conference aims to be the game changer that will reverse the decline in the health of our ocean for people, planet and prosperity.
It will gather all the relevant actors of the maritime world as well as ministerial representatives of Member States in order to promote concrete solutions to protect the ocean as well as sustainable ways to use its great resources.
The Ocean Conference will be concluded by the adoption of a Call for Action by the UN Member States in order to encourage voluntary commitments from States, industry, NGOs and individuals and enhance the protection of the ocean all around the world.
For the first time, the great potential of ocean energy will be presented at the United Nations. This side event will bring high-level speakers from governments, the United Nations, the industry and civil society, to underline the key benefits of ocean energy for coastal and island States.
The goal of the event is also to emphasize how this innovative sector can play a significant role in meeting the United Nations sustainable development goals, particularly in terms of energy efficiency, fight against climate change and protection of maritime resources.
Under favorable regulatory and economic conditions, ocean energy will play an important role in addressing one of the world’s biggest current challenges: an energy transition from a system based on fossil fuels to a flexible and interconnected system based on clean, renewable and infinite domestic resources.
The event will take place on 7 June at 1.15pm and will be broadcasted live on http://webtv.un.org/
