29 September 2016 - France will spare no effort for a ceasefire in Aleppo
Syria - Remarks to the press by Mr. François Delattre, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations - 29 September 2016
Q: (inaudible) on France’s draft resolution.
We are about to hear Steven O’Brien and I am sure he will tell us again how critical the humanitarian situation in Aleppo and in Syria is.
To answer your questions, we have started our discussions on our draft resolution on Aleppo. These discussions will go on today. We must, and will, spare no effort and will leave no stone unturned to try to impose a cease-fire in Aleppo, and all that goes with it.
This is our responsibility and we call on all our partners at the Security Council to assume collectively this shared responsibility.
Q: Have you spoken with the Russians yet about the resolution?
We are in constant contact with the Russians and all the other members of the Security Council.
Q: And what are the prospects with the Russians agreeing to such a resolution?
It is too early to say. Again we have to act and to take collectively our responsibility. As I told you yesterday, it is not about tactics, it is about imposing a cease-fire in Aleppo and saving lives.
Q: When do you hope to circulate the resolution at the Security Council: Tomorrow, this week?
The sooner the better.
