The Generation Equality Forum – Save the date!

Postponement of the Generation Equality Forum

In light of global developments due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in agreement with UN Women, the Generation Equality Forum, due to be held from 7 to 10 July 2020, has been postponed until the first half of 2021.

The Generation Equality Forum is a global gathering for gender equality, convened by UN Women and co-chaired by France and Mexico, with the leadership and partnership of civil society. The Forum will kick-off in Mexico City, Mexico, on 7-8 May 2020 and culminate in Paris, France, on 7-10 July 2020.

Twenty-five years after the historic Fourth World Conference on Women and the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the most comprehensive blueprint to achieve women’s empowerment and gender equality, the Forum will take stock of progress and chart an agenda of concrete action to realize gender equality before 2030, as part of the groundbreaking, multigenerational campaign, “Generation Equality: Realizing women’s rights for an equal future”.

The Forum will be a global public conversation for urgent action and accountability for gender equality, celebrate the power of women’s rights activism, feminist solidarity and youth leadership to achieve transformative change. It will be connected in real-time across the world through interactive satellite sessions enabled through technology to maximize participation.

Leaders from various stakeholders (civil society, public authorities, businesses, municipalities, parliamentary assemblies, trade unions, media, etc.) will meet at the Forum.

The Forum will be an opportunity to launch multi-stakeholder action coalitions whose goal will be to catalyze collective action, foster intergenerational dialogue both at global and local levels, stimulate public and private investment, and deliver game-changing results that will make a difference for women and girls of all generations.

The coalitions will be organized around six themes, which were developed in consultation with international feminist groups, organizations active in the ground, governments and other partners.
The six themes are as follows:

1. Gender-based violence
2. Economic justice and rights
3. Bodily autonomy and sexual and reproductive health and rights
4. Feminist action for climate justice
5. Technology and innovation for gender equality
6. Feminist movements and leadership

The Forum will lead to concrete partnerships and accountability for accelerated action on a larger scale on issues critical to achieving gender equality.

Join the global campaign #GenerationEquality to make gender equality a reality in our lifetime!
