High-level political forum on sustainable development: 7-16 July 2020 [fr]

The High Level Political Forum is the UN platform for the review of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and the sustainable development goals. It provides for the full and effective participation of all UN Member States and specialised agencies.

The High Level Political Forum (HLPF)

In September 2015, the UN’s 193 member states adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This agenda is centered on people, on the planet, on prosperity and peace. It upholds a vision to transform our world through the eradication of poverty and a transition towards sustainable development. This agenda hinges on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which range from zero hunger, to the implementation of measures to fight climate change, to gender equality.

The High Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development is the major UN event for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It provides an opportunity for States, civil society and businesses to highlight the efforts they are taking to achieve the SDGs and to exchange on best practices.

This year’s meeting of the High-level Policy Forum on Sustainable Development will be held virtually from 7 July to 16 July 2020 and will include a three-day ministerial segment from 14 July to 16 July 2020.

The theme of the HLPF is "Accelerated Action and transformative pathways: realizing the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development". In the face of the devastating impacts of COVID-19 that threaten decades of progress in improving people’s lives, the Forum will provide an opportunity for the international community to reflect on how to respond effectively to the pandemic and build back better to accelerate progress and chart the best paths towards a healthier and more equitable world.
