By building on the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the event intends to
highlight the importance of human rights – political and civil rights as well as economic, social, and cultural
rights – as a preventive tool and to showcase how respect and protection of all human rights are beneficial
to people, sustain peace and resilience of our societies and guide and support Member States’ engagement
to meet their global commitments and improve the lives of people all over the world.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. António Guterres, will be delivering remarks.
