JIM/Libya: France’s hope and support
JIM/Libya- Remarks to the press by Mr. François Delattre, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations - 16 November 2017
Q: Is the JIM dead?
No, we never give up on this. Until the last minute there is hope. Again, JIM is not a tool of the West, JIM is our common good and our best asset to fight against the use of chemical weapons in Syria. So my call of the day would be to say to our partners: please think twice before throwing it away, because this would be a major strategic setback for the fundamentals of our common security and for the very future of the non-proliferation regime that we patiently built together over the last decades. The stakes cannot be higher and until the last second should I say there is hope because there must be hope.
Q: On Libya ?
We are about to meet with our friend Ghassan Salamé on Libya, and we as France fully support, 300% support, his much appreciated efforts to restore a strong political process in Libya. And I hope that the Security Council will be able to express its full support to Salamé during the coming meeting.
