North Korea: We are resolutely prepared to react
North Korea - Remarks to the press by Ms. Anne Guegen, Deputy Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations, chargée d’affaires a.i. - 29 August 2017
"It is crucial, more than ever, that the crisis with the DPRK be dealt with in a collective way." Anne Gueguen, 29 August 2017
The DPRK has yet again launched another missile after the missiles it had launched last week, which is yet again directly and deliberately targeting a country in the region. French President Macron has expressed France’s solidarity with Japan. And while the level of threat continues to increase, at a global scale, it is crucial, more than ever, that the crisis with the DPRK be dealt with in a collective way. Now is not the time to show weakness and not the time to procrastinate: the DPRK must understand that we are collectively, unequivocally, and resolutely prepared to react to its reckless actions with determination and with firmness. We are ready to work with our partners in the Security Council to take any useful initiative to prevent further escalation and rigorously implement the latest measures adopted in early August. The DPRK must dismantle its ballistic and nuclear programs and must return to serious negotiations.
