"Indiscriminate use of weapons, including barrel bombs, against civilians in Syria: what response from the international community?”

A meeting of the Security Council in Arria format will take place in Conference Room 4 at the UN on Friday, June 26th 2015, at 11am. This meeting will tackle the issue of the indiscriminate use of weapons and barrel bombs against civilians in Syria, which is prohibited by international humanitarian law and by Security Council resolution 2139.

This meeting is organized by the Missions of France and Spain to the United Nations. His Excellency Mr. François Delattre, Permanent Representative of France to the UN, and His Excellency Mr. Roman Oyárzun, Permanent Representative of Spain to the UN, will both co-host the debate.

Members of civil society will attend the meeting and make a statement, along with Member States and Observers. The expected briefers are:
— Mr. Nadim Houry, Human Rights Watch, Deputy Director for Middle East and North Africa,
— Mr. Bassam Alahmad, Violations Documentation Center in Syria, Spokesperson, Head of Research,
— Mr. Raed Saleh, Syria Civil Defence, Director.
