Syria/Non-proliferation: avoid the death of the JIM
Joint Investigative Mechanism on chemical weapons use in Syria - Remarks to the press by Mr. François Delattre, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations - 17 November 2017
One quick word about the JIM. You know how much we regret yesterday’s outcome. Today there is a Japanese proposal on the table. We support this proposal from Japan; because it is a pragmatic proposal that can open the door to get out of the stalemate, to renew the JIM temporarily.
So we hope we can all get united around this proposal and roll up our sleeves and work again on a lasting solution to renew the JIM. In other words, this is a way to avoid the death of the JIM. This is a way to give us time, to think seriously about the lasting solution and to work hard and to try to find the spirit of unity that is absolutely needed, when the very future of the non-proliferation regime is at stake.
