The non-proliferation regimes are the backbone of the international security architecture
Non-proliferation - Remarks to the press by Mr. François Delattre, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations - 18 January 2018
Q : [Question on US plan to form a 30,000 fighters force at Syria’s border and Turkey’s threat to launch a military offensive in Afrin] And there are estimated 1 million people who could end being refugees. What’s the position of France ?
Needless to say that we are following closely the situation there.
The session we are about to have on non-proliferation is critical.
The non-proliferation regimes are the backbone of the international security architecture. If you think about it, these regimes are under threat, as we can see in Syria for example with not only the proliferation but the use of weapons of mass destruction, in this case chemical weapons.
That’s why the fight against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, let’s be clear about is, is the number one priority of the Security Council. And that’s why France will remain at the forefront of this fight, that needs new initiatives.
