We have to put the peace process back on track
Middle East Peace Process - Remarks to the press by Mr. François Delattre, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations - 30 June 2016
Mr. Mladenov will brief us on the Quartet report findings and recommendations. We expect the report to be officially published soon and hopefully tomorrow.
Q: Do you think the report will be helpful for your idea of a conference?
But first of all let me tell you that we have heard the terrible news about the thirteen year old Israeli girl´s killing in the West Bank. Needless to say we condemn this horrible act in the strongest term.
We expect Nikolai Mladenov to brief the Council this morning on the Quartet´s report, its main findings and recommendations. If you think about it, it is the first time that an official report of the Quartet is officially briefed on in the Security Council and this in itself demonstrates I believe the importance of the report.
This presentation is an important step in our collective efforts to save and promote the two states solution.
The French initiative launched in Paris on June 3rd and the Quartet report mutually reinforce each other and have a common goal: to put the peace process back on track. As announced in Paris we will shortly engage in setting up working groups to create a package of incentives. We´ll also closely study all recommendations by the Quartet in order for all efforts to converge. And our aim is to create an international consensus towards the holding of an international conference before the end of this year.
